Reading: Joshua 24 (Optional Reading: Joshua 21 – 23)

15But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15 NIV)
This week our text asks each of us an important question, “whom will you serve?”

Everyone serves someone or something. For you it might be sports. You think about sports all the time. You imagine yourself shooting the winning basket at the end of the game. Or stepping up to the plate hitting the walk-off homerun. Sports are always on your mind. You are serving a god named sports if you are not careful.
Are you motivated by money and what money can buy? Do you need recognition as always having the correct answer? Getting good grades is what it is all about for you. Seeing the smile of dad and mom when you bring home the report card. Or getting to the highest level on the video game you just purchased. You pour your money and extra time into those activities. It is easy to become a slave to things like that.
Are you serving someone or something other than Jesus? Take a hard and honest look at your life. Where do you spend your time and money? How much do you put into those things, compared to how much you put into serving the Lord?
You do not have to think about Jesus every minute to put him first. It is a mindset, of attitude. Who is first in your life?

Father, let me learn to put you first in everything. Amen.
