"But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, 'First seek the counsel of the LORD.'”    [2 Chronicles 18:4]
Growing up I loved to climb trees, and what kid does not love playing in a tree fort? I remember one time Gary, Mike, Cy, and I stood at the bottom of a group of trees. Looking up, Gary said, “it might be a good place to build a tree fort.”
“The trees look strong,” Mike answered.
“They go pretty high,” I commented.
“Have you seen anywhere else?” Mike then asked.
Mike and I immediately said, “Let’s build here.”
Cy continued to quietly look up. “We should pray about it. Or we should ask my older brother. He knows about three forts.”
“Good idea,” Gary answered. “let’s do it.”
Cy was doing something all Christians should do before they attempt something big and new. We could have, should have, prayed. We should always do what Jehoshaphat mentioned to his ally. He wanted to consult a prophet of the Lord before going into battle. He had to make sure God was in it.
As we look for a new Senior Pastor . . . before we start looking for a new Director of Christian Education . . . before you go to a job interview . . . before you buy a gift . . .  before you give money to a cause, you should always consult God. Does he want you to do this? Is he in it? Commit your plans to the Lord, and he will give you success. Otherwise, you could easily fail.
Jesus, remind me always to pray before I do anything. Amen.
