“He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not wholeheartedly.” [2 Chronicles 25:2 NIV]
Mark and his mother drove down the street, heading for home. Suddenly, Mark saw a boy he knew from school walking along.
“Who is he?” his mother asked.
“A kid from school.”
Mark’s mother stopped and they offered the boy a ride. He said with a smile, “Thanks. It is a long walk home.”
“I forget your name,” Mark said to him.
The boy replied, “Jerry Cranmer. I live up on Livingston Street.”
Mark’s mother drove into one of the tougher sections of town. They soon found jerry’s house. The lawn was dry and brown. Two old rusty cars sat in the front yard. And the house looked like it was ready to fall. Mark said to Jerry, “See you in school.”
When Jerry had gone, Mark said to his mother, “He is a nice guy. I should get to know him better.”
“That is a good idea.”
The story is based on true events when Marjorie and I lived in Val Verde, California. It is what you would call a good deed. Something done to give God glory, not just for yourself. That was what King Amaziah did. He did what was pleasing in God’s sight. What good deed, how might you share the love of Jesus for someone else today? Does not need to be anything big or dramatic that the world takes notice. It is just little things like giving a kid a ride home.
Jesus, help me to do good everywhere I go. Amen.
